It is that time of year again – today is the first day of the 2013 Minneapolis Aquatennial! As usual, it is hot and humid, typical Aquatennial weather. This is the 74th year of this event which kicked off today in downtown Minneapolis. The Aquatennial runs from the 12th to the 20th. For more information, click here. The entire 10 days are packed full of fun events, but what are some of the most popular events that you don’t want to miss?
Sunday, July 14th is the Beach Bash! This event takes place at Lake Calhoun on Thomas Beach and features a sand castle competition and the milk carton boat race. These events start at 10 am and run until 4 pm. If you want to get the best view of the milk carton boat race the tip is to bring your own canoe so you can watch from the water.
Wednesday, July 17th is the Torchlight Parade. This is one of the largest nighttime parades in the USA! The parade with clowns, bands and corporate floats starts at 8:30 pm and runs until 10:30 pm. Prior to the parade, there is a 5K run sponsored by Lifetime Fitness.
Closing out this great 10 day event are the Target fireworks on July 20th. The celebration begins at 6 pm with live music and fireworks beginning at dusk. They say the best place to see the fireworks is from the Stone Arch Bridge.
