Summer Activities in Minneapolis

summerSummer is officially beginning and the worries about snow and cold have faded as the heat and humidity has moved in. Now is when the question of what to do during the summer starts coming up.  Minnesotans love to be outdoor and there are so many great activities available in the summertime!

How about taking in some FREE music and movies outdoors in various parks around Minneapolis? There are concerts and movies available for all age groups, so you can make it a family activity as well.  Click here for more information and the summer schedule.

If you are looking for a little culture, try out Brit’s Pub!  Brit’s Pub is quite well known and one reason is their lawn bowling on the rooftop deck! Whether you try out the lawn bowling or not, it is an “in” place to hang out and enjoy summer on their rooftop.

Another fun activity can be found in Uptown. Why not rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboat and tour around Lake Calhoun or Lake of the Isles? Lake of the Isles is especially scenic with the older homes around the lake.  You can also rent inline skates and skate around the lakes.

The Lake Harriet Bandshell offers free concerts during the summer on Saturday evenings and Sundays. Click here for the concert schedule. You can also take a ride on an antique streetcar or trolley around the lake and Linden Hills neighborhood. For more information on that, click here.

Enjoy a nice lunch or dinner on the Nicollet Mall. Many of the restaurants have outdoor seating in the summertime.

Grab some fresh produce and other items at the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market which is open daily! You can also take in the Mill City Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.  They also offer different specials and themes each week.

Looking for some charm along the river? Tuggs Tavern in St. Anthony Main is the place with their wonderful food and view of downtown Minneapolis. Themed after the great riverboat days of the Mighty Mississippi – Tuggs Tavern grills juicy stuffed saloon burgers and makes their own chili and tasty sandwiches.

These are just a few tips, but there are so many festivals, fairs and other activities – there is no excuse to stay indoors this summer!
