This is the time of year where many Minnesotans start suffering from the winter blues. It has been so dark, cold and then there is the snow and ice. Some people head south for some sun and fun but not everyone can get away. I came up with a few fun activities coming up to get you out and your mood lifted.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival is on! This event runs from January 24th to February 3rd. Some of the highlights of the Winter Carnival are the parade on the 26th, the ice sculpture carving competition, the treasure hunt, geo-cashing, childrens art show and more. Take a look at their website for further information.
If you really need a summery event, you can take in the Minneapolis Boat Show January 31 to February 3rd. Find out here what is in for this year in boats and water recreation. They also have events for children such as meeting Sponge Bob Square Pants.
The City of Lakes Loppet is another fun outdoor event if you like cross country skiing. You can either ski or enjoy the atmosphere with lots of good food and drink as well as entertainment. There are events for people of all ages as well as the family dog with skijoring.
Are you a runner? How about entering the Valentines 5K at Lake Harriet on February 9th? You can run alone or with your Valentine.
Skating at the Depot in Minneapolis is a great winter activity and it is warm as it is enclosed. It works for singles, pairs or families, you can bring your own skates or rent from the Depot.
One other fun activity is a visit to the Science Museum of Minnesota. Right now they have the Body Worlds and the Cycle of Life and the Tornado Alley exhibits. Both exhibits offer something for visitors of all ages.
If you are staying in Minnesota, get out and enjoy the winter. The fresh air will do you good and you may find out that you actually enjoy it!
