Facts of Life in Minnesota

smiley mnIf you are a Minnesotan, you know we are a different bunch but you don’t mind.  There are those that like to make fun of our state, but most likely they are just jealous of the great state we have to live in.  If you are new to Minnesota or are moving here, these fun facts are things that you will understand once you are here!

You most likely live in Minnesota if:

  • Your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May
  • If you have ever refused to buy something because it was too “spendy”
  • Someone in a store offers you assistance, but they don’t even work there
  • You have worn shorts and a down jacket at the same time
  • Your town has an equal number of bars and churches
  • For you, ketchup is almost too spicy
  • Your daily meals are breakfast, dinner and supper
  • You consider Lime Jell-O a highly versatile food: a breakfast dish when it is filled with fruit, a salad when it has shredded carrots and a dab of mayonnaise, and a dessert when topped with Coolwhip
  • You have gone cross-country skiing at the zoo
  • The dog dies, your spouse leaves you, you get fired, the car breaks down, all in the same day and you say “It could be worse.”
  • It has been 60 degrees warmer in your freezer than it was outside
  • You have had an entire conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number
  • You consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 18 inces of ice and sitting there all day hoping the food will swim by
  • You know several people that have been hit by a deer more than once
  • You measure distance in hours
  • Driving 75 mph in 2 feet of snow in a blizzard does not phase you
  • You always plan your kids Halloween costume so it can fit over a snowsuit
  • When it is 10 degrees out you find it a little chilly
  • You carry jumper cables in your car and you know how to use them
