Probably the greatest thing about living in the Twin Cities is the diversity. In the cities themselves, there are so many neighborhood areas that have their own personalities – just going a few blocks in any direction can give you a whole different feel! Even the suburbs all have their own character and are known for that. Some neighborhoods are defined by their landmarks, some by their location or the type of people that live in an area. It will not take you long to figure out which neighborhoods fit your personality and lifestyle.
The outdoor life is almost a toss up as a favorite reason to live in the Twin Cities. We have lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and parks at every turn. Just because you are in a downtown area does not mean that you are not close to a lake, river or park. Minnesotans make good use of all these areas year round. We walk, run, bike, rollerblade and more in the summer but in the winter we are back in the same areas on cross country skis, skates and sleds. Minnesotans are an active healthy, hearty bunch who love the great outdoors!
The Twin Cities are also a center for the arts! No we are not New York City but we are not far behind. We have the famous Guthrie Theater, art galleries such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Walker Art Center and Weiseman Museum, the Minnesota Orchestra and so much more. They have nicknamed the Twin Cities the “Mini-Apple”.
One other great reason to live in the Twin Cities is the food. Yes, it is true that we have lots of Scandinavian heritage and love bland food but over the years we have really expanded our food. In the cities there are so many wonderful local coffee shops, and we have many different cultural food specialty areas such as Mexican, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and more. Minneapolis is also home to many famous steak restaurants such as Manny’s Steakhouse and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
These are just four reasons why the Twin Cities are great – once you are here you will discover so many more!
