Now that the 80 degree days are behind us we are starting to feel more like fall and getting out to participate in some of the fun fall/Halloween activities that the Twin Cities have to offer. Put on your Halloween costume or a nice big warm sweatshirt and jeans and get out to enjoy some of the fun fall adventures!
Probably one of the best family events would be to visit the Midwest’s largest corn maze – Severs in Shakopee. Severs is having their fall festival every weekend through Oct. 30th. There are a multitude of events – something for everyone – including the corn maze, a straw bale maze, giant slide, corn pit, pig races, pumpkin slinger, petting zoo, live music and more! Remember, if you get lost in the maze do not call 911 as someone did this past week in Massachusetts! No one has been lost forever in this maze, you will get out! For more information and a $1 off coupon, visit their website.
Maybe you enjoy running or even better running in a costume or with your dog in a costume??? Then the Monster Dash is for you! The Monster Dash is run on Oct. 29th, there is a half marathon and a 10 mile course run in St. Paul and a 5K and a 5K-9 run at Lake Harriet. Prizes are not only awarded for those winning their races, there are also many different costume categories. The 5 K-9 is for you and your dog, with or without costumes but there are also awards for dog costumes and dogs so love dressing up or not! If you aren’t a runner but enjoy a good laugh, the 5K and 5K-9 are especially amusing to come out and watch!
Do you have your pumpkins yet? Now is an ideal time to go to a pick your own pumpkin patch. The kids will love finding their own special pumpkin in the field rather than having to dig through a big box or crate at the local store. Many pumpkin patches offer other activities such as hayrides to make it a great family outing. Click here for a list of pumpkin patches.
Finally, for those that just love to be scared there are the haunted houses.
We have Valley Scare at Valley Fair – they have a toned down program earlier in the day for the little ones and Buck Hill has Frightmares with haunted adventures, live music and more. Click here for a list of the best haunted houses in the Twin Cities 2011.
Dress up and head out this weekend!
