Tomorrow is the first day of fall – today being the last day of summer feels more like the last day of fall but in MN anything is possible with the weather! At this time of year we love to get out our old jeans and sweatshirts, start making and eating our favorite comfort foods and hope that we have a nice Indian Summer coming up soon. But in the meantime there are fun things to do.
One great thing to do in the fall is take a leaf tour – you don’t have to go to the East Coast to see great color! The following photo is from the DNR website and gives you a good idea as to where to go at what time to see the best leaves.
Depending on where you choose to go many resorts and hotels will have travel packages for those going up north to see the leaves. Another website gives you 10 great tours to drive to see the best colors.
The news is saying that this might be the best year for seeing great color in the last 10 years! The weather with rain, sun and the temperatures has been ideal for producing beautiful leaf color.
While out on your “leaf tour” you may want to take in some apple orchards as well. Apple season normally starts the beginning of September but this year it is running a bit late because of the cool and wet spring. The apple everyone is talking about is the SweeTango which was breed here in MN. MN has been known for developing new apples for many years and is proud of the developments. Make a stop at one of the many apple orchards around the state!
