The summer has almost ended just when it seemed to really get started! At this point we have all long forgotten the pain of a lousy cold and wet spring that came to an abrupt end with a scorching hot and humid month of July! We had 10 days over 90 degrees! August was a lovely month with reasonable temperatures and low humidity – open the windows and let the fresh air in! In Minnesota, Labor Day is really the unofficial start of fall. Many of us forget that it is really a day to celebrate labor and a day to really rest but I guess having a good time is as good as resting.
Now we have Labor Day weekend – most of the children will be going back to school next Tuesday, a few started this week already. Parents are thrilled, life will get back to normal and many of the kids are sad going back to school but many are ready as they are bored being at home. Lots of folks will be doing that last minute back to school shopping this weekend as well. Look for lots of sales going on over the weekend.
Just as on Memorial Day everyone heads up north, many do the same this weekend, the difference being that it is kind of the last hurrah on the lakes before the cooler weather sets in. People start packing up things at the cabin – getting ready to bring in the boats and the docks in preparation for winter. Many resorts have specials to attract people up for one last weekend.
The weather might be a bit on the cool side but does not look to be too bad so it will be a busy weekend up north and on all the lakes around the state.
For those of you staying in town this weekend, many of the fall attractions are starting up such as the Renaissance Festival, the Shafer Corn Maze, and several apple orchards will open as well. If you have not already done so you can still attend the Minnesota State Fair through Labor Day.
No matter what you choose to do – get outdoors and enjoy the nice weather and don’t forget the old rule – it is the last weekend to wear white if you are fashion conscious!
