Looking for something fun to do with friends/family in the next week? Try the Dakota County Fair which starts today August 8 and runs through August 14. If nothing else, it is good practice for the Minnesota State Fair which starts the end of the month. If you fall into the right category you may even be able to get free or lowered admission/parking on certain days. Tuesday August 9 is kids day where kids can go to the fair for a buck, Wednesday honors our servicemen and all military personnel with ID will enjoy free admission and parking and finally on Thursday seniors over 60 get free admission and parking. If you are stuck paying regular admission it is $6 per person and parking is $5. The weather will be gorgeous this week so get out and enjoy the county fair!
As with most fairs, the main attraction is the livestock with everything from cows to pigs to rabbits. Make sure you check the calendar to find out when your favorite animals will be at the fair.
For those of you interested in some “motor” fun, there are lawnmower races, Motocross, and demolition derbies at the Grandstand. Careful, it will get loud.
The fair has a beer garden where you can, of course, get beer if you are over 21 and they will have live bands all week long.
What would a fair be without the carnival rides? No worries, the fair has carnival rides, booths where you can win prizes and even week long passes at a discount.
No, food has not been overlooked at! You will find every kind of food your doctor would not recommend available here. From foods on a stick, to deep fried foods to just your basic hotdog, whatever you have a craving for, you will find it here.
The fairgrounds are in Farmington and they do expect some 150,000 people to attend this year, so make sure you don’t miss out!
