Are you new to the area or have you lived here for some time and never have been to the Science Museum of Minnesota? If you live here and have never been, then shame on you! The Science Museum is another great reason to live in MN! It is a great place for family outings but it is also a great place to go without kids.
The Science Museum of Minnesota is open to the public but many of its fans choose to join and purchase memberships. As with anything, membership has its benefits including discounted parking and admissions, occasional free tickets, special events and more. If you choose to not become a member that is not a problem, you just won’t receive the extra privileges. For those that visit the museum often, especially as a family the membership can really pay over the course of a year.
Right now is the Omnifest at the Science Museum – this is a huge favorite! Omnifest is a yearly 6 week event which is featuring 5 different films that are shown on the Omnitheater’s 90 foot domed screen. This theater really takes you into the film, you feel like you are right there in the thick of it all. Not only do these films create incredible viewing experiences, they are educational as well. The films run daily on a rotation schedule but seats can fill fast!
The museum always has several interesting exhibits going on. Currently it is running the Wonder Years about human development from ages 0-5, a Mississippi River Gallery exhibit, a cell lab, dinosaurs and fossils, an experiment gallery and more. There is always something for everyone in your group!
The Science Museum of Minnesota also works very closely with schools and educators. They offer numerous programs including field trips, camp-ins, a nature center, they bring their items out to schools and they have programs to educate the educators. Kids like nothing better than a trip to the Science Museum and it is so educational for them as well.
The Science Museum is located on the Mississippi River Front in St. Paul – a gorgeous location! If you get hungry while taking in the sites they have 3 different locations for snacks or meals. The museum also offers specials for groups, birthday parties and other private events. They are closed on Mondays, so keep that in mind and every 1st and 3rd Tuesday is Senior Tuesday with special pricing for Seniors and Senior Groups.
