Once again it is right after Labor Day and Northfield is gearing up for Jesse James Days. This 5 day event takes place every September following Labor Day, this year September 7th – 11th. This is most likely the biggest event of the year in Northfield!
For those of you not up to speed on Jesse James, he was a very famous, American outlaw from Missouri who robbed banks and trains, had a gang and committed many murders. When he attempted to rob the First National Bank in Northfield in 1876, things did not go as planned resulting in 2 of his 5 gang members being killed along with 2 innocent citizens. This robbery kicked off the beginning of the end for Jesse and his gang and a manhunt was begun.
If you are looking for a fun day trip or a great family adventure this would be ideal for you! Northfield is just an hour away from the cities and it makes for a nice drive through the country – maybe stop along the way to get some fresh produce or fruit from the many roadside stands. Northfield is a quaint town situated along the Cannon River and is home to Carleton and St. Olaf colleges. The main street has the old world charm with the older restored buildings and the town itself has many older homes – a real old world feel.
Jesse James Days has activities all day each of the 5 days. One of the most popular is the reenactment of the famous bank raid that took place in 1976 complete with gangsters, horses and pistols. If you plan to attend this event, be early to get a seat!
Other events include rodeos, a carnival, an antique car show, a tractor pull, bicycle tours for all levels of bikers, food, parades and much more.
